Frequently Asked Questions: FAQ’s at reCOOPERate Physical Therapy

What conditions do you treat at reCOOPERate Physical Therapy? We specialize in treating running and athletic injuries. Many of our former patients have told their friends and family about us so we are well versed in all areas of the body. From your head to your toes, we can help.

What makes reCOOPERate special?  After working as a physical therapist for more than 10 years, I saw how I can better meet the needs of my patients. I figured out how to get them better, FASTER. The secret sauce is a full hour session of one-on-one treatment directly with a doctor of physical therapy. During this hour, you will get specialized hands-on work, and then go through a specific workout tailored to your specific weaknesses. Imagine a medicine customized just for you. That is precisely what reCOOPERate can do for you.

I’ve tried physical therapy somewhere else and haven’t gotten better. Why should I try it again? We have helped countless people who have tried physical therapy elsewhere and were frustrated. Actually, that is most of our patients. Most people have been to a clinic where you get 10-15 minutes with their physical therapist, and then do some simple exercises with partial supervision of a tech or aide. This model is not the best version of physical therapy. We have reimagined physical therapy with you in mind. Each session is an hour one-on-one with a doctor of physical therapy. Think of physical therapy as a “dose of medicine.” You will get the “highest dose” with direct one-on-one care, versus the “lowest dose” in a model where you are getting physical therapy from a tech or aide, who is not a physical therapist.

What can I expect during my first visit? When we first start working together, we need to figure out the root cause of what is going on so we can fix it for good. We will spend the first bit talking and figuring out some things like what happened, what makes it better or worse, and what your goals are when you are feeling better. After that, we will do a comprehensive evaluation where we will assess your strength, range of motion, movement patterns, and do some tests to understand the root cause of what is happening. Then we will create a customized plan of care tailored to your specific needs.

How long are the treatment sessions? Sessions are typically 60 minutes. We pride ourselves on starting and ending on time so you know that you can get on with your day.

What should I wear? You should wear clothes that you can move around in and exercise. Ideally you would wear something that we can get to the skin of the area that is affected. Some techniques work best right on the skin.

How do I schedule and appointment? The best way to see our availability and book directly is on our website.

Do you accept insurance? In order to provide the very best care by spending one hour with each person we don’t deal with insurance directly. We will provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance to apply to your deductible or reimburse you directly if you have out of network benefits. Let us know if you would like us to check your benefits and estimate what might get reimbursed.

What is a superbill and how do I submit it to my insurance company? A superbill is an in depth receipt showing all the things your insurance needs (like billing codes, diagnosis codes and dates of service). To submit it you just upload this document into your insurance portal. In most cases you have up to 12 months to submit the superbill.

What can I expect in terms of cost? I want us to both be fully invested in a plan of care that will really make a difference in your life. Most people buy a 10 pack of sessions which comes out to $230 a session. You can see the full price list here

How many sessions will I need? That depends on how bad the injury is, how long ago it was, and how much healing has already occurred. Your physical therapist will discuss your plan of care during your comprehensive evaluation. It takes six to eight weeks to make a permanent change in your tissue. The same is true for bones. If you break a bone you would be in a cast for six to eight weeks. Soft tissue has the same timeline.

Why do you think a package is the way to go? Our ten pack is the most popular. The data shows that your symptoms should be gone or significantly reduced in 2.5 sessions. The issue is that those 2.5 sessions get you back to where you were before the injury, which is right on the brink of injury again. It is critical that after we get you feeling good in the first few visits we develop strength and clean up your movement patterns to make this go away for good. The 10 pack is designed to be used one time a week for 3 months, and the 20 pack is best for people who need 2x a week for 3 months.

What do people do after finishing their package of sessions? That is entirely up to you. Many people find working with us so valuable that they decide to do maintenance and preventative work with us. We offer our lowest price per session if you want to continue working with us on a 1x or 2x a month basis after completing your plan of care.

I’m feeling better, should I stop my physical therapy? We recommend completing your plan of care to fully heal and decrease the risk of future injuries. If we’ve successfully facilitated your full recovery and you still have remaining sessions in your package, you have the option to either retain them for future use or gift them to someone you believe would benefit from our services.
